Behaviour of feral chickens
For my MSc thesis, I conducted field work on Kauai, Hawaii, with the Wright Lab investigating the behaviour of feral chickens. The domesticated chickens on Kauai escaped during two powerful hurricanes in the 1980’s and 90’s, after which they became feral and interbred with the Red Junglefowls present on the island.
During my MSc, we captured over 200 feral chickens on Kauai and collected behavioural data on the chickens in captivity, including data from tonic immobility experiments, predator response tests, and continuous recordings for quantifying movement, anxiety and sociality.
